English Language


Paper 1 (50%) 1hr 45mins – AO1/2/4 Section A and AO5/6 Section.

Section A (4 questions = 40 marks): 1 fiction extract from 20th or 21st century, 4 questions - explore how the writer uses language, form and structure for effect.

Section B (1 question = 24 + 16 = 40 marks): writing creatively in response to a stimulus or idea – linked to Section A.

Paper 2 (50%) 1 hr 45 mins – AO1/2/3 Section A and AO5/6 Section B.

Section A (4 questions = 40 marks): 2 non-fiction extracts from 19th, 20th and 21st centuries – explore and compare how writers use language and structure to convey viewpoints and perspectives.

Section B (1 question = 24 + 16 = 40 marks): writing to match audience, form and purpose.


English Literature



Paper 1 (40%) 1hr 45mins: Extract-based questions on set texts.


Shakespeare – Macbeth (30 + 4 marks)


C19th Novel – Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (30 marks)


Paper 2 (60%) 2hrs 15mins


Section A: C20th Drama – An Inspector Calls: choice of 2 questions but no extract (30 + 4 marks)


Section B: Poetry Anthology – Power and Conflict: one named poem provided, must compare with one other (30 marks)


Section C: Unseen Poetry – 2 poems: 1 question on one, 1 comparison question (24 + 8 marks)
