Welcome to BTEC Business Studies

Curriculum Overview

BTEC Business was re-launched with the new specification requirements at Winton Community Academy in September 2013 for those students now in Year 10.

What is a BTEC Business Level 2?

A BTEC in Business Level 2 is a practical, work-related course that comprises of project assignments, coursework and some external exams. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities. The course introduces students to a range of different sectors and aspects of business including Finance, Marketing, and Customer Service.

How is the course assessed?

All units are assessed by continuous coursework and examinations. All exams and requested assignment work is externally assessed by an examiner and a moderator. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all students who successfully complete all units.

Grades awarded are Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

What can students do at the end of the course?

With further training or study, students may progress into Business related careers such as Accounting, Administration, Customer Service, Finance, IT, Personnel or Sales.

A BTEC Level 2 gives a good preparation both for employment and more advanced courses such as a BTEC National Award, Certificate or Diploma in Business or a BTEC National Award or Certificate in e-business.
