International School Status

This is a nationally recognised British Council award that is applicable to schools which have shown that they are able to develop aspects of a curriculum promoting an International dimension. It is awarded at three levels of which Winton was awarded the Intermediate status in 2011. This was in recognition of our developing work in the field of Internationalism, through various trips abroad (such as to New York, France and skiing in Austria) and our work corresponding with partner schools in France, Spain and, in particular, Italy.

Comenius Project

In September 2012 we successfully applied for a British Council Comenius grant to continue to develop our working partnership with the Istituto Oscar Romero in Rivoli, Italy. The project runs over two years and is designed to develop understanding of the curriculum in each country and what skills are important across cultures for a 21st century learner. Our aim is to create a website in collaboration with our Italian partner that highlights the key skills that we have identified and suggests ways in which to develop these skills within schools across Europe.

The project involves exchange visits of students between the countries and institutions. Winton students visited Rivoli, Turin and Rome in the summer of 2013. Our Italian partner school will make a return visit to Andover in October 2013 and we hope to publish the website in early 2014.
