Welcome to Learning Support

These pages describe our schools 'offer' for pupils with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability)

The Learning Support Department exists to ensure that each individual at Winton Community Academy achieves their potential academically whilst addressing any social emotional mental health or physical needs which may be barrier to their learning.

As Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-Ordinator (SENDCo) it is my responsibility to ensure that every pupil with SEND has the opportunity to make progress, allowing them equal opportunity to make the life choices available to pupils without SEND.

To achieve this, our  team works in partnership with the pupils, parents, teachers, school leaders and outside agencies to ensure that the quality first learning provided to individual pupils in school matches their additional needs.  This leads to progress and ultimately positive learning outcomes for pupils.

The Learning Support Department has a dedicated suite of rooms.  A room is allocated to interventions both in group work and one to one tutoring.  The Learning Support Assistants have a range of resources that can be used to deliver proven Wave 3 interventions such as Read, Write Inc, and bespoke one to one interventions.  In addition the room has a small 'Chill Out' area for pupils who are experiencing high levels of anxiety.  This area is specifically designed to support pupils with communication and interaction needs.  The department also runs a lunchtime club and after school homework club.

The links below relate to those pupils who have difficulties that affect their learning and are recognised as needing specific types of support.  Follow the links to find out more about how Winton Community Academy works to support pupils with a range of additional needs.
