Transition - From primary to secondary school

Choosing the right secondary school is one of the most important decisions you will have to make for your child. Many children find the process of deciding on the right school and leaving their primary school a daunting and worrying time.

At Winton Community Academy we pride ourselves in offering a complete and worry free transition process for all our New Year 7 students. Our aim is to provide as much reassurance and information about the new school year as possible so that each student receives a smooth, happy and worry-free start to the next chapter of their academic life.

During the Summer Term we will visit each primary school to talk to teachers and pupils. These discussions with teachers will help Winton Community Academy staff to know what levels primary pupils are working at and to identify friendship groups so that they can be accommodated where possible.

The talk to pupils about life in Winton Community Academy helps them to develop their knowledge of the school. At the end of the talk, there is a question and answer session. This helps to allay any small worries that primary school pupils may have about moving to secondary school.
